History of Shorin Ji Tetsu Kempo- Young Forest Temple Iron Fist Method
Shorin Ji Tetsu Kempo, is a very old martial arts system with a long lineage and history. This Ancient Fist method began in China in the 1300's at the Young Forest Temple known in Chinese as the Shaolin Zi Temple in the Henan Province. The System moved to Korea in the early 1800's where it was called So Rim Sa Ch'ol Kwon Bup Tang Su Dua, meaning Young Forest Temple Iron Fist Method China Hand Way in the Korean language. The HeadMaster of the style was Lee Chi Wang. Wang means King in the Korean language.During the Japanese Imperial Occupation of Korea which began in 1894, all language and customs of the Koreans were suppressed. Japanese customs and language were forced upon the Koreans. Japanese was the only language taught in the schools of Korea for Fifty years until the end of World War Two. In 1956 the style moved to Mishima Shi Japan,Master Kin Chi Wang moved to Japan from Korea seeking medical treatment for stomach cancer. Master Wang passed on the style now called Shorin Ji Tetsu Kempo to an American, Albert Church, who was a student of Wang's in 1950 during the Korean War.Church was the only student of Master Wang's to continue to practice the Iron Fist Martial Art after the Korean War. All of Wang's other students went over to the New Tae Kwon Do Art. Albert Church was named the successor of Master Wang on November 1st 1967 at the Tara Dai Mon Temple in Mishima Shi Japan. Master Wang died on November 10th 1967. Church renamed Shorin Ji Tetsu Kempo to Shorin Ji Tetsuken Ryu. This Kempo martial art is the oldest of the Kobudo Arts of the Nippon Kobudo Kamishin Ryu.
